forest people

Forest People, 10th Century
Post Imperium:
Messages among the Forest People are carried by hand, in the form of wrapped sticks. Various wrappings in complex coloured patterns are used to convey coded messages. Strangely enough, this is also the method of disseminating information on Iboriis, which does bear out the theory that the Iboriisi were at one time dwellers on Irusaq, and either escaped of their own accord, or were expelled by the authorities for political dissidence; noone really knows the truth. Message sticks are carried in a pouch or basket, and are handed to the recipient upon production of the appropriate password or gesture. Training to both encode and interpret messages starts at a very young age. Message bearers are selected by a committee, who look for such attributes as speed, intelligence, health, endurance etc. It is a vital position within the community, and is highly respected, because good communication can make all the difference between life and death in the mountain forests of Irusaq.

Ancient Fisherman

- Norval Morrisseau's Prime Period [1970's] "The fish, sacred trout, was the most respected of all fish. The trout gave the Indian life in abundance and according to Ojibwa Indian mythology it represented his soul carrier. The trout carried the Indian soul through transmigration into an other existence in the supernatural or reincarnation. All this belief worked for the betterment of the Indian food in reality - faith in the supernatural."
